Mackerel Fishing Tips

I think that mackerel is one of the best baits to use. In my opinion, you can catch ANYTHING with mackerel. So im gonna share some of tips w/ you guys so we can catch some more of those guys:

I would say the best overall bait for mackerel, is mackerel. Yes, the are carnivores, and eat their own species (kinda sick when you think of it). But they will still take almost any bait you throw out at them.

Good rigs for using mackerel would be a sliding sinker rig with a VERY small sinker, or just a rig w/ a single spit shot on it. You dont want heavy weight, cause the guys hang near the top of the water. When you cast this out, let it sit for about 20 seconds or more, and then reel in a little bit to bring your bait back up to the surface.

When fishing at night, attach a couple of glowsticks near your bait. With these, you dont need any weight, because these act as your sinker. This really attracts mackerel.

Another good method would be to use a Sabki bait catcher. I find this particular brand the best, because it catches more fish, and it doesnt tangle as easy, like other bait catchers. Try tipping this off with some mackerel. *Hint* I read on another board, that if you use a lure without the hook on the bottom of your Sabki, and have this take place of the weight, this attracts even more fish.

Another good method would be to use yellowtail ironmans, and other types of saltwater lures. I have never caught them off of them, but i have seen people do it.

*hint* Use VERY sharp hooks. These guys are difficult to hook, so use sharp and small hooks.

*hint* Dont use too much bait. Only use very small portions of bait.

*hint* Mackerel fishing is usually good during summer months. Catch a whole bunch and freeze them for next season

*hint* The fresher the bait the better. Most fish like bloody, gory bait.

Well, i hope this helps u guys. If you have any other questons, just reply here or send me a PM.

Yea, usually they are easy to hook, because usually they take bait w/o hesitation, if you're using the right presentation.
