Do it yourself rod tube...

I bought a ten foot section of 3 inch ABS pipe, two butt caps and two female end caps with screw in caps. Using a hacksaw I cut the pipe into a 5 foot piece and four foot piece, I placed some foam rubber in the butt caps before cementing them in place and cemented the female end caps in place too. I placed some foam into the screw caps as well and now I have two travel tubes that are probibly stronger than any plastic ones you can buy.

Speaking of which, are you allowed to bring 8ft rod cases in airports, and have them put on the plane as luggage?

I have no photos and they might let you "check" in a rod tube that long at the airport.

I've checked 8 foot tubes before. Depends on the individual airlines policies.

I keep having pictures in my head of this certain handle that would be perfect for it....Have you ever seen the really heavy duty style SGK Tackle boxes??? The side handles of that box have really cool handles; I mention those because, if they break of whatever, the company replaces them for free, I beleive you can call up or contact them via email and get tehm to send you replacement handles even if you dont have the actual Tackle Box. They'll look great, and you could just Jimmy Rig the attaching of them to the main unit. If you think it would work and you wanna try, I'll help you to figure out how to order them?
