Gear for throwing plastics
Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to know what rod and reel combo some of you guys use to throw plastics for bass??
I'm just fishing local lakes like Yorba and Eisenhower, so some thing in the 6-8lbs line range.
I was fly lining senkos yesterday(@ eisenhower) and realized that I could not get a good feel of by bait with spinning gear. So I'm really interesting in getting some good gear for using plastics with light line (6-8 lbs)
Eric

When I used to live close to Puddinstone, I used to do some bass fishing. I never really got good fishing for bass but anyway for what you are looking this was the gear I used:
1) Kistler Drop Shot Special Medium-Light Power, Fast Action rated for 6-12lb. The length at 6'9" was perfect for the application. I paired that up with a Shimano 2500FH spooled with 6lb P-Line.
2) Kistler Wacky Worm Special Medium Power, Moderate-Fast Action rated for 8 to 17lb. The rod length is 6'9" aswell. I paired that with a Shimano Scorpion 1001 Reel (Japan Curado) spooled with 8lb P-Line CXX.
I still have the Kistler Drop Shot Special which retails $139.99 but I can sell it to you for $80.00 if you are interested.
Off the topic: I sold my Kistler Wacky Worm rod and replaced it with Phenix Px-1 65M for Spinner baits, Topwater, jerkbaits, and cranks.

Whats up Crash, Rooks right on the set up, but with if you couldn't feel you bait, a different rod and reel isn't going to make that much difference. Unless your using a flipp'n stick with 30# test. When bass fish'n with light lines and light weight you have to watch your line more than anything. Some bass strikes are so subtle that you wont feel it, but when you see your your line start going out, its on.
Hey I can out of work around 2:00, hit me up for some surf fishin.

i think baitcasting reels are essential for tossing senkos... so and 8# test baitcasting setup and a 4# spinning setup is perfect imo.

Thanks for the info guys! I found a great rod already at the Longfin. Just looking for a reel now!
Hey Sonic, I get out of work around 4, and I'm right off the 55. If you want to fish Newport, I'll see what time is best for me. This week will be tuff, I've got a trip for Santa Ana River Lakes already with a buddy. Get your gear ready anyways, I'm planning on Thursday the 27th.
If anyone else is interested, reply or PM me!
Later, Eric

As long as it does not rain we'll be ok! I've got to find some smaller grubs too! Every seems to only have the 3 in.
PS: I've had a PM issue too, I'm still not sure if I can receive or send them , Steve thought I was ignoring him! Talk to a moderator
