New Rod @ Fishermans Access

I spoke to Frank a couple of days earlier and apparently a new trout rod is hitting their shelves in a month of so. It is a 8 foot rod, rated 2-6lb(I think) with a Rogue blank. It's right by the cash register and is paired up with a Symetre. The blank is the exact blank used on a flyrod also by the cash register. I was whipping it around the store and it seemed to have a lot of sensitivity while still maintaining a strong backbone. With the lightweight guides he has on the rod, he believes that it will go for the mid 200s. Has anyone tried out this rod? Seems a bit pricey though...

Hi Bitedez,

I've played around with Rogue before... they are definately up there as far as quality! However, I also understand that Rogue Rods is under a new management. Interesting how that is going to be.

Now, is that 8 foot rod going to be a 2 piece or one piece? I doubt the rod will cost in the mid 200. I think it will be around lows 170s to mid 180s. Just my opinion.

I forgot to mention that with the high end guides that he had on the current rod, it would go for the mid 200s. But I also asked how much it would have been with cheaper guides and he did say roughly around 180. So I guess it really depends on which guides you feel comfortable with.

Cuban_Fish,
Its my second favorite tackle shop, my first being the Long Fin. There isn't a large selection of tackle there, but the customer service is great.

I'm wondering the same thing?! 2 or 1 piece? What the Pros and Cons of a 1 or 2 piece other than easy transporting of a 2 piece??!!

1 piece is strictly better, the only problem is that its hard to transport. and the 2 piece rods have a few slight problems at there connection. they bend funny, eventually lose the wax that holds the two together so they fall apart while casting (this has only happend to one of my 2 piece rods, and i have almost always bought 2 piece rods. Plus this is easy to fix, you just need some more wax) and lastly they can break at the connection, which again, has never happened to me.

I got to play around with this prototype at Fisherman's Access earlier today. Very nice. Very light (outfitted with the REC titanium guides). It's reported to throw a 1/32 oz. jig quite a distance, but I'm wondering just how it would handle a large fish, as it seemed kinda short on backbone (it felt like a fly rod, and bent down to the cork). The price will come down considerably with alconite guides, as previously mentioned, but I like it as it is. If this rod goes into production, I think I'm likely to sell my Phenix and pick one up.
