What are this green things? Im thinking its something to do with the spool.

They're centrifugal weights. The idea is that they will stay at the bottom of the rod they are fixed on until the spool starts turning fast, and that by sliding out they will help to control the speed at which the spool spins, adding casting control. The old shimanos only had two of them. Cuban Fish is right, don't lose them.

DementedFish: Try experimenting with them by pushing all of them in and try casting the reel. Then turn them all off and start casting the reel... see what happens

me for example. last time i went to castaic, i got backlash 4 out of 5 casts because it was so cold i couldnt get to the spool on time
