ideal gear for surf fishing for halibut? - California Fishing

im most likely going to buy seans corsair and i will get the rod with that. anybody have a rod suggestion thats 2 pc. and about 8 ft? graphite, and for casting reels. oh yeah, sean is the corsair ok for flylining?

why 2 peice they suck in my opinion they have sucky bend were they are joined. for halibut in the surf it depends if you are fishing grubs you want a 12 pound spinning rig for bait good casting reel abu garcia with 15 or 20 pound line on a 8 foot rod

i would like a 2 pc because its easier to take around but if the 1 pc are better by a long shot, i would get the 1 pc.

Um..... I dont have a corsair.... where did you get that idea?? LOL. I'll sell you my cardiff (awesome reel) for 80 bucks though. Ive only used it a few months, and its in awesome condition. The retail price is $120.

Fishinkid is right, do NOT get a 2 piece rod. They come off easily when you cast, and they are not as strong. Plus, good luck even finding a two piece conventional rod. I dont think they even sell them.

Here are the pics of it. This reel is in perfect condition. Ask either Wahoo!, Trout Guy or Tunakid, they've all seen it. There are only two minor scratches on the whole reel which you can see from picture number 1.

Also, you may not believe this, but many people actually compare this reel to calcuttas.

sean you say every reel is comparable to a calcutta. stop it, its not true. it might be a popular reel but it is NOT comparable to a calcutta.

No seriously. I have seriously heard a lot of guys said that they like this reel just ask much as a calcutta, and some who said he perferrs some of the aspects of the cardiff better than the calcutta. I also know a guy who said he liked the cardiff better than the calcutta.

My cardiff is still one of my favorite reels. Im just offering it to 1tough for this price.

What this post about? O yah the rod. well definitely go for the one piece like sean and fishnkid said. the bend on a 2 piece is wierd. As far as transporting the rod i have a 9' jigstick and i get in my camry somehow, you just have to improvise. Multi piece rods are not all bad, my flyrod is 3 pieces and it has awesome bend, but its when you get into cheap multi piece rods that they start to bend wierd.

I like fishing light spinning gear for halibut in the surf. You can use a 1500 or 2000 size spinning reel with 6# or 8# line and then you could get a 2 piece rod so it's easier for you to transport. You'll also be able to fish for perch, corbina, etc with that setup...
