Cherry beach 2-21

I fished of cherry beach in Belmont today. It was really tough. I caught one small halibut on a 3" AA smelt color, and a few very small sand bass.

It took almost an hour for me to even get my first bite. The water was nasty, lots of trash was coming out of the river jetty and floating up on the beach. (Got to love Long Beach after a rain )

Thanks for the report Capt. Water sounds pretty bad. Hopefully the fishing will improve when the water clears up.

I have two kayaks a Wilderness Systems - Tarpon 140 Fisherman, and an older tandem I think the name of is a Jocasie. If you are looking for a good beginner yak the Wilderness Systems - Pungo is a great one for the price. I would suggest using a few of them before you buy. There are so many to choose from and it all depends on your personal preference. I prefer a sit inside for fresh water and a sit on top for salt.

The tarpon is awesome for salt water fishing I am installing a fish finder on it before the summer. I like fishing yaks because you can travel fairly large distances. You can paddle ten miles in a day no problem.

Ok thanks for the info. I have been demo'ing kayaks. I have tried the cobra explorer and the malibu expedition. Both great boats.
