ok, when the lines say 10-12-15-20-40 lb lines, what does it mean, tension in pounds the line can take? the weight of the fish?
How do you calculate what pound if line to use for the weight of the fish?
thanks

It means the amount of pressure a line can take before it breaks.
For example, if you have 2 pound test, and tie on a 2 pound weight to it, it will snap, because even though there is a 2 pound weight attached to it, there is more pressure than 2 pounds, because gravity is putting more pressure on it. Under water, gravity does not have as much effect, so u can hold more pressure. I hope this makes sense.
it sure made sence, I´m a scuba diver instructor and gravity is diferent underwater, I get thanks, guess it also depends on what the fish is, tuna pull stronger, mahi mahi jump and pull diferent.
and also the leader you put on to it. thanks
