Targeting Bass & Halibut From Jetties or Piers ( Part one )

Terminal Tackle

- Usually for rigging plastic Grubs in the 3 - 4 inch range I enjoy use Circle hooks. It may sound insane but the hook sets right on the corner of the mouth with a quicker and easier release. Also most of the time you may have to wind the fish on instead of setting the hook hard and pulling it away from the fish.

- As for rigging plastics in general ( Big hammers, Whams, AA , Fishtrap ) I always go with red, yellow, white, or green lead heads or football heads.

With the Lead heads you can set the hook any way you want..
Hard...Soft.. Whatever you prefer....

- Also I use either 8 - 12 pound test for my reels or leaders if i'm carolina rigging for Halibut.

Plastics&Iron

All the time I will use Big Hammers for the Halibut and Bass..
- Colors -

- Bleeding Mackeral
- Calico killer
- Green
- Brown & Orange
- Anchovie
- Black & Purple
- Basically dark in color...

As for Grubs I either use Mojo's for Halibut and Kalins for Bass..

- Only Two Deadly Colors -
- White ( Pearl )
- Green

Another different thing to try are Megabaits ( iron ) or Crocodiles

-some great colors for Megabaits are..

- Sardine
- Green Mackeral
- Dorado

For Crocs'

- Chrome

Hard Baits

Alot of people use Lucky Crafts, Rapala's , Yo-zuri's and alot of different type of Baits..

I found out through the years that Lucky Crafts are one of the most dependable baits for Halibut and almost every type of game fish.. Rapala's are O.k its a 1 out 20 casts you will get bit, and a LC is almost every 10 out of 20 casts you will get bit..
But still a Rapala X-rap is still a great bait to use if you don't have a LC..
As for color wise choose anything that looks like an Anchovie or Sardine..

But still one of my favorite go to Baits is a Yo-zuri Pin Minnow when I want some Mini Bass or Halibut...

It's only Ye' big ( 1 oz torpedo )

So these are basic Lures and plastics for the Jetti and or Pier..

Circle hooks helps frome getting stuck at the rocks

I use Irons and spoons without trebbles,
but circle hooks instead... an deadly combo in the rocks
