Question new rod for the rocks.....

Ey guys. Just getting used to the new life. So we got some awesome coastal with neighboring kelp beds that are said to be great for lings and rock fish. I'm looking for a good affordable casting rod around 8ft medium to go with my new ABU Ambassador thanks to Spooky. I'm thinking about going for a St. Croix Tidemaster. Any more suggestions?

P.S. CSU students get $20 kayak rentals for the entire day. Cha-ching!!!!!

Hey Vincino!! Get whatever rod feels good to you. Then you'll like it. How's the water up there right now?

pretty cold. The lings and rocks are around the kelp beds and lots of them. I'll try them out but I'd like to see some different model rod to test out.

Get a Shimano Crucial or Clarus. That way you can always get a new one if you break it on accident. other than that, choose whichever model to best suit your needs.

Also, scout out those kelp beds so we can come fish there one day

if your on low budget, get a nice fenwick or californian(turners house brand), if you have the money to spend, go for the high end calstar/other. if you have the medium budget, get an okuma.

Dang, thats cheap. by the time your done with school you will have already mastered kayaking and know which one you want.

I wish I was back in school. I heard up north is a really good place for halibuts.

I caught large halibut up near monterey bay some where. Dont remember where but I hear fishing is better up there.

In terms of rod I like the trevala rod. for $99 for the MH and a limited life time warranty its a good stick. But its a 6'6. but if your fishing for lings you dont need a long rod. It s a good caster too.

I paired mine up with a curado 300, after I saw the tackle tour article.

I hear the phenix Black Diamond Saltwater rods are good.

Seeker inshore 8" (809) or the 8 1/2 (858) is good too.

Teramar inshore 8 MH.
