Tippet

I am curious what all of you fellow fly anglers will say. Do you use tippet when you are out fishing? I have just about always used tippet and really like how it makes a longer life for your leader. Here are some things I have heard from fellow fly anglers:

1) More knots in the line will weaken your line.

2) Tippets are the weakest connection between you and the fish you are fighting.

3) Tippets are not very strong for my applications.

4) Tippets are no match for sunken tree stumps and thick, weedy places.

5) Tying tippets takes up time.

Tying on the tippet takes not much time at all if you know how, takes me about 1 min to get it tied on and ready to tie on a fly. On #2, the only way that is going to be a weak point in the line is if you are not making strong knots. Just about never breaks off there for me. It's usually around the fly. I have started using regular mono for a lot of the fishing in Alaska but when I am fishing for trout, bass, panfish... I always use tippet, or I run out of leader quick.

What are your thoughts on using tippet?

Tippet is very thin, and is very clear type of leader. I like it, but I only use it for fly fishing, I dont use it for regular leader.

If u don't use tippet your leader will have a short life......that reminds me i have to stop by the sports chalet and buy some new leaders....need to set up a couple for dry fly fishing and another one for nymphs.
Demented how do u set up your leader and tippet for midges ?

At LNL, what you want to do is directly attach leader or tippet to your floating fly line, and an idicator on the leader or tippet. I usually use this teqniuqe other places too.
