Birthday Ideas
Ok guys, I need your help. My boyfriend is from Florida and grew up fishing loves it to death!! Since he has moved to California all he does is complain to me how it’s not the same out here. (he’s home sick) Anyway with a little bit of background, It’s his birthday at the end of the month and I wanted to set him up on a fishing trip. I really need some guidance on the best experience out there, he has never fished Cali. Please help! I really want him to see that So. Cal has good fishing also not to mention he would love fishing! We live in Newport Beach, but I am willing to take him where ever the best fishing is.

First thing you gotta do is exactly what you did. Sign up to Hookup Sportfishing. Well, this is more long run... If he's an avid fisherman he'll love it here. He will easily find fishing spots & make new fishing friends with whom he can get out of the house.
As for fishing trips, I'm assuming you mean boat/s. If so, what's the budget? Are you looking to send him on a full day boat or a 1.5, 2 day, etc. Sky's the limit. Just shoot away and the rest of us will chime in.
San Diego is starting to see Yellow Tail Tuna. It's got the best fishing around here. Then there's Ventura County which is currently catching good numbers of White Sea Bass. Then there's Catalina Island, which is starting to warm up & will soon have good fishing.
The more info you give, the better guidance you shall receive.

Does your boyfriend like salt water fishing or prefer freshwater fishing?

Well......I am thinking of doing a full day trip. I am willing to spend $200-400 including supplies (fishing rod, food, bait). I dont think I will buy him a rod unless he starts to go often. This will be the first Cali trip so I think in time that will come. Any other ideas? His birthday is May 30th, so something that weekend would be perfect!
I am so glad I found this website, he really needs some fishin bros

A trip up to Mammoth would be nice. or an 3/4 day or better yet an Overnight trip on a boat for the both of you would be in your price range as well.

I say take him to Davey's Locker in Balboa. An overnight trip is around $120 per person and their rental gear is pretty cheap. Best of all the last time I was out they were only charging 2 or 3 bucks a beer :-)

this guy sounds like a SW boat fisherman Chris. The Prowler from Fisherman's Landing in San Diego looks like a good bet. $180 per ticket for an overnighter. $20 rentals, bring food or about $60. There's a chance the boat will head down to Mexico which is a sure bet for awesome fishing and there 3/4 day boats have been limiting on bonita fish and some yellowtails and rockfish so there overnighter trips should be even better. I know it's just over your budget but it should be some of the better fishing around till the summer.

I just called them up and there Davey's Locker overnighter boats start at $150 per person and will begin arouns the 24th. They'll head to either Catalina or San Clemente islands, both great spots. Limit is 28 anglers which is comfortable.

Nice! Thanks for the feedback. I will look into the two places suggested. I'm pretty sure he would prefer saltwater. I like the fact the Fishermans Landing goes to mexico. Isnt that where you find great catches??

A nice weekend trip for the both of you would be Avila Beach or Morro Bay it's rockfish that you would be fishing for but if the weather is nice on the central coast it would be well worth it and very affordable. Fishing spots are Patriot Sportfishing and Virg's Landing. Good luck and hope he or you both enjoy your trip whatever it may be you decide. O' ya Happy B-Day....
