Kistler Helium LTA He70MLC – The Kistler Helium lives up to its name. It is extremely light, almost feels like it will float away if you let it go. This version is 7’0”, Medium Light power and a Moderate action. Note also that it’s a baitcasting rod. Finding a reel to match this light of a rod is a bit difficult, a standard reel like a Curado 200 or a Fuego is just too heavy for the rod. I ended up pairing it with a Daiwa Liberto Pixy, one of the lightest reels on the market. The rod loads up very easily and paired with the pixy, it can cast 1/8 oz lures with very little difficulty. It isn’t the most versatile rod, since the moderate action makes fishing plastics difficult. Nor can you fish anything over 3/8 ounces. It is however a really fun rod that handles small crankbaits well. Another neat thing about the rod is that you can fish 6# line and be able to protect it very well. I probably would not suggest buying this rod but at the same time I have no regrets about buying it myself and I absolutely love fishing it. Cant wait to catch some trout in the Sierras with it this year!
