Midshipman bites...

I've been looking over reports on a few other socal fishing forums and have noticed a frequent catch of midshipman fish. According to some research sites the midshipman fish eats during the night; however they've been biting during the day. Any reason why?

First of all, you definitely have too much time on your hands to be asking these kinds of questions. But I often ponder these kinds of questions, so don't be offended. Your question about the midshipman is perfectly legitimate, i.e. why they are supposed to be night feeders but are now biting during the day. Well, the midshipmen--who used to be "middle-of-the-night" party animals, decided to switch to "days" for health reasons. . .of course, these health reasons are totally obscure, blatantly vague, and not based on any scientific rationale. Your best bet is to to fax--or email--any relevant information, then your price will be known.

Some species change their eating habits based upon pressure, such as bass. Maybe there has been pressure on the midshipmen and they had to change their eating habits.

Maybe if they haven't had pressure their bait/food has been pressured and the midshipmen needed to change their habits as well.

Maybe the water is so dirty, they think it's night, or ask Gore, I'm sure he will blame Global Warming.

Maybe your 1st mistake was relying on Wikipedia in the 1st place
and I've ALWAYS seen those little deviled horn fish active during the day 100 of times
