I am looking to buy an avet reel and the guy who owns the local tackle shop recomended a kencor, fast action type of rod for jigging. Any of you guys own one of these style rods?

i usually deal with the blanks ( kencor ).
they are really , really nice to have in your arsenal.
i dont really know too much about the blank mod#, as i usually pull on them for judgments.

the guy at the tackle store held the tip and had me lift up on the rod like I was pulling up a yellow tail, I was surprised at all the back-bone. The guides looked nice and would hold up to braided line.

the new style of kencor has a spiral wrap, not the old yellow and black.
they came out about a year ago, maybe longer.
i do have my hands on a few , looking to wrap.
the original owner past away, and now some one else is running the show...
i do believe its his 2 sons.
i met the family , REALLY NICE PEOPLE .
they are always on top to meet with the anglers needs.

they're pretty good i guess. i personally wouldn't fish one because it doesn't go too well with my style but i have nothing bad to say about them either.

Aww... I think I know which rod you are talking about. I haven't actually tried them out in open waters, but at the store they felt amazing. These are the Kenncor Zibra with Carbon/Grahite and Magnaglas core. Are you thinking of buying one?

I heard good things about the Zebra. I try to never go by pulls, but more like how you would fish it i.e. a jigstick would act like a jig stick not like you're pulling up an anchor.
It's nice to get a pull and all, but; what is the handle's length?, is there room enough to grab the foregrip, am I going to have problems casting off the side of a boat, are the guides straight...???

local rookie yes i am, spooky mostly vertical jigging and maybe bouncy ball, the mxl model. I am also planning a couple of trips to bahia de los angles for yellows. I am planning on spooling it with 30-40lb braided line with a floro top shot.

The Rod for $90? It can't be the Zibras then or maybe they just gotten that cheap. If that is the case, that would be a great deal.

I have the same reel but in a 2 speed and use it on a Shimano teramar tmc-80mh rated for 15-30lb and 3/4-2oz lures. Sweet set-up. I slayed the 56lb WSB in my avatar with the set-up. But for $90 for the Kencor, that seems like a good deal.
