Finally a Bow, 9/17 Report w/Pictures
Today was probably one of my best fishing days besides the weather. I went down to the creek after school with my step dad, and my brother. I brought both my 8 weight fly rod and my 6 weight. Got to test out my new reel today also! :veryhappy: Also put a bearbell on my backpack. There is a ton of brown bear activity now on the creek I have been fishing lately. A man a couple days ago was attacked my a 750lb grizzly, but luckily he had a gun.
Right when we got down to the river I noticed a pretty big difference in depth and clarity. The water came quite a bit up because of our rain and the recent snow that has melted. Made it pretty hard to see the fish but we were able to find some. I tossed out a fly that is made of pink and purple marabou. Not sure the name cause some guy made it up and gave me the fly one time when I went fishing. I cast out the fly at sat for a few seconds...While I was looking upstream I felt a tug on the line, lifted the rod up and there was a pretty nice Silver on. I got it in within a few minutes and discovered that the fish had really taken that fly, straight down in the bottom of his mouth. After about that time it began to get really overcast and a little bit of snow started coming down. I think it was around 40 degrees but felt a lot colder in the water.
We went upstream to another hole we like to fish next. It is one large pool where it splits into the northfork and southfork but the main river flows in it also, so its a 3 way with a bunch of different currents around the pool. The Silvers have been in this hole for a long time now, and we thought this would be a good area for some bow fishing. Clark was the first to catch one and it was a beauty! He was using an egg pattern on a 5 weight rod and it was bending pretty good. He got it by hand and it measured 12 1/2" Girth was pretty big, very colorful fish! Right after that we moved into the hole also. After about 10 casts I hooked into one. I didnt feel that bite just a little stop in the line so I lifted it up and it was a nice rainbow. It quickly swam to the top and got off. Couple casts later got another one but it got off. Finally a few casts later I got one more and landed it. I am guessing 11-12", this is the brightest rainbow I have ever caught. It was very colorful. :veryhappy: I was using "TroutBeads" again and they prove once again to work great!
At that time it was getting very cold, about 39 snow/ice pouring down very fast. The water was freezing, I have some leaks in my breathables so that made it worse. I was wet from my feet up above my knees. Thats the most pain my feet have ever been in! Next time its wool socks with neoprene waders!
Here are some pictures from today:

Well they get spooked away when they here loud noises. Thats why people say to talk loud or do something to make a lot of noise when out in the "bush" or where ever. So I bought a bearbell and it makes a lot of noise when I am walking. We do have a handgun but we havent been bringing it latley. The hand gun will only work to scare them off, but if they get close the best areas you can shoot are in there shoulders or straight in the gut. There skull is a little over 2" thick, so it isnt going through there!

I California we took care of our Brown bear problem by killing them all, we are still working on getting the Mountin Lions and Black bears but the "liberals" are in the way. Does pepper spray have any effect on bears? maybe you shoud buy one of those Grizzly suites that look like a plastic suit of armor, or maybe a big stick.

I think it is sad that people keep moving into their territory and than they have them killed because they are going into their backyards looking for food. I, as sad as it is, root for the mountain lion to get in there. I mean "Dont tread on me" goes a lot of different ways. Just because we overpopulate and over pollute doesnt mean that we should take their space away from them....

Nice report and some great pics..How much longer will u be able to fish the creeks. sept and already snow on the groiund and u have to worry about bears... do u carry that super pepper spray(don't know what it is called) to ward off the bears? Be careful and keep posting those reports and pics.

HELL NO!, I am more afraid of the foot long mosquitos than the bears, lions or whatever...I might want to go fishing there one day but I enjoy the year round fishing here in "The Peoples Replublic of California" to much to move.
