DODOMAN,S CATFISH BAIT

HELLO EVERYONE . i would like to share with you guys a little history of this homemade bait. ( it works )

when dodoman was just a weeweeman ( about 9 years old ), my younger brother and i use to live very close to 2 lakes. everyday after school, when we get off at our bus stop, we would throw our books into the bushes, where we hed our (1.00 dollar yard sale) fishing rods and head out to these lakes.lol

we would spend the rest of the afternoon fishing for what ever we can catch.
about a few months doing this, still young and exploring new areas of fishing, one day this old man showed up and fished along side of us.
we,ll lets just say, it was our first time seeing what a catfish looked like.
after watching this old fella pull one in after the other, my brother and i stopped fishing for the 30 to 40 a day bluegill, and ran home to figure out how to catch catfish.lol

we went into our experment room and talked for a bit on making a home made bait.

we cut the bluegills ( small to med size ) in half and filleted all the meat off.
with a 1 inch by 1 inch cut size fillet, we would install the hook into it ( double hook the filet ) and sprinkle some salt , then let sit out in the sun for about 2 to 3 days until it looks like jerky.

now , bieng that we already had the hook installed, when the bait drys, the hook is hard to remove, make sure the point of the hook is sharp and sticking out of the meat.

with this bait, it can be used many times without rebaiting the hook.

we,ll after doing this, we started to catch catfish, and my first and biggest ever went to 13lb.lol

they put me and my younger brother in the local papers, and everyday after school, we would fish the lakes and go home with a stringer full of catfish.

boy , was our mom proud of us since.

being that , this happened a hundred years ago, dont know if its legal now.

If I recall right, I think it is illegal to use bluegill for bait in Ca. but I wont tell.

Actually, they use bluegills up in the delta fishing for stripers. You can use them as long as there caught and used at the same area your fishing.

Now that is a cool recipe for catfish! And as far as I know, it's legal in California as long as it's cut--and not live bait. Here's another killer catfish bait--trout guts It's totally legal and the cats scarf it up like kids gorging on Halloween candy
