The purpose of this forum is to exchange information and post Buddy Outings that would help intrested anglers complete the Dept. of Fish and Game California Hertitage Trout Challenge.
Here is the link with most of the information you need. However, only the details that will make it completely sucessful come from you and your experiences and research.

There are only 11 trout in the challenge (of which you have to catch 6) and they are rare and only in certain regions of the state.
Coastal rainbow trout
Eagle Lake rainbow trout
McCloud River redband trout
Goose Lake redband trout
Warner Lakes redband trout
Kern River rainbow trout
California golden trout
Little Kern golden trout
Coastal cutthroat trout
Lahontan cutthroat trout
Paiute cutthroat trout
The trick is to catch the trout in their designated native watersheds and document (photograph) the feat. Once you attain six, you submit proof to the DFG for verification and they send you a very nice personalized 16 x 20 certificate print (very suitable for framing) depicting the trout you caught.
If you chose to post photos of your HTC qualifying catch, please emboss or add text to the print which would prevent someone else from copying and submiting the photo as their own. The purpose of the Challenge is to experience the Challenge and all the fringe benefits (i.e. outdoors, friends, fishing, clean air, realizing how scarce they are...etc.) I would not want to cheat someone out of that experience.
I am currently trying to contact the DFG to get species verification photos of the above trout that I will post here for a reference. I am also trying to get a copy of the certifcate. There is a small one depicted on the HTC Submission form on the link above, but it is in a PDF format.
I know the HTC is only something to hang on the wall, but to me it is much more... it's another reason to go fishing.
