If fish are suspended just off the bottom, yo want to get the bait in the zone and that's whatdrop shotting does. It's a finnesse technique that works great. You can use any bait, even the Slice Special (crankbait)!!

Ive caught a to of halibut as well as my biggest on the dropshot. Like Al said you can pretty much us anything. My new favorites are the MC swimbaits designed specificly for dropshotting. Berkley jerkshad is another I like to use and works well, but just about any swimbait. Ive had days where it was 2:1 ratio on the dropshot vs casting a swimbait.

You can jig it. Most people just shake and twitch the rod when dropshotting.

BTW, Nice hali Jeff!!

Like Darren said just twich allowing the weight on the bottom to follow the contour. What I do is start with the rod at a lower position say 9 o'cock, then twitch it while raising the rod reeling in to take up the slack. When tubing I just rig it and set it in the rod holder and let the motion of the tube do the work.
