I've only tried beer-battered recipes for catfish. They're good, but could use some slight improvements. I haven't tried this recipe yet. It's a regular batter catfish. I think it should be ok for halibut:
3/4 cup of yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup of flour
2 tspn of salt
1/4 tspn of cayenne(sp?) pepper
1/4 tspn of garlic powder
4 catfish fillets (halibut)
vegetable oil

mix cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic.
Cover fish with mixture. (As I'm writing this, I'm thinking of dipping the fillets in eggs first. It's not in the recipe, but it should stick better to the batter.)
Fry fish until golden brown.

Hope this helps, if it doesn't, the check out www.justseafoodrecipes.com and hopefully, they'll have one that's better.
