Marshmellow and night crawlers is definitely the thing to do. As a matter of fact, this is one of the first baits that I used for trout during High School when I was fishing Irvine and Sarl back in 88 and 89. I have always caught trout on this hook up and still do at Irvine. It does make the crawler float and also is a great additive with the marshmellows. I like to use the anise flavor, white ones, and the garlic, yellow ones. I use a medium size crawler and slide it threw the hook and up the line, then I place a mellow on a size 6 single hook, then I slide the worm back down to the hook, cast out, and it works just as good if not better then my plain inflated crawlers.

I have caught a 9, a 8.7, a 11.9, and a host of 5-6 pounders on this set up at Irvine in the past using nightcrawlers and mellows. Give it a shot!
