Mosby Creek OR, 8/20/06 Report
I decided to head down to the creek that runs along the road outside of my uncle+aunts house today to try my luck at some stream fishing for about 40min. The stream really isn't known for holding many fish, and the fish that are all in there are all small and wild.
I fished at this one spot but couldn't scout any fish, even with my polarized sunglasses on. I started out fishing a piece of a natural colored power worm on a 1/32oz leadhead in order to get a pupa or coccon kind of look or w/e you want to call it. I then saw a school of about 7 wild trout swimming upstream and threw my bait it. Nothing. After a few more attempts I decided to switch to a Lip Ripperz Mini Ripperz, and just like that every fish in the school started crashing on my bait like freakin bonita on a surface iron! They all had it in their mouth but I couldn't seem to hook them, it just wasn't sticking. Finally one of the larger trout took a nice big gulp, set the hook, and fish on! It turned out to be a very nice sized cutthroat trout which measured to be 12"! Very decent sized fish for that stream. Unfortunately the fish completely swallowed my jig and started bleeding so I wasn't able to save it. When I cleaned it though I "pumped" its stomach and I found some sort of pupae in it and a small baitfish so now that explains why it was so eager to eat my artificial. It also had pink meat which was interesting.
Anyway, after that fish, all the other fish obviously freaked out and swam away (keep in mind these are wild fish so they obviously would be skittish). Anyway, look for more reports from me this week. Oh, and I took a picture of it but its on my phone and I don't get service here so I cant put it up, but next time I get into town and get reception I'll have it up.
