I watched a guy jig Power Bait rolled up on a jig head. He had to replace the bait everytime he caught a fish but he caught as many fish as the rest of the guys standing around him. So that guy turned his PB into an efficient jig. I agree with you about the "floating trout worms". Whereas the sinking plastic fished on a drop shot gets most of its hit when the plastic falls, I get most of my hits as the floating plastics raises. As its floating the current makes it swim and I may use different retrieves to find where the fish are, but most of my hits are when the worm is not being retrieved in. There is a guy I know who fishes them solely as every one else does bait. He casts and waits, and irritatingly as it is sometimes he catches alot of fish. I agrre the floating trout worm is a bait. It was designed to give the product motion unlike a ball of cheese , but is still a bait IMO.
